CLASSIFICATION OF NETWORK

METROPOLITAN AREA NETWORK (MAN)

AREA OF COVARAGE
  • A high-speed network that connects local area networks (LAN) in a metropolitan area such as a city or town and handles the bulk of communications activity across the region.
  • A MAN typically includes one or more LANs, but covers a smaller geographic area than a WAN.
NETWORK OWNERSHIP
  • MANs are owned and managed by a group of users or by a single network provider that sells the service to the users.
TRANSMISSION MEDIA 
  • MAN can be wiredor wireless.
COMMUNICATION DEVICE
  • MANs use devices such as switch, router or wireless access point to connects multiple wired or wireless networks together.
